This week we have a veritable treat for you and your friends, assuming non of you are allergic to shell fish
Provencal Prawns on a bed of rice ( you can tell I have been watching Masterchef!) with an old Ford family favourite for pudding . grape brulee . These seemingly deluxe meals are possible courtesy of Tesco who have a half price deal on peeled king prawns £2.62 and Somerfield who are also going the half price route with their seedless grapes £2.20
Here goes ………………
Tablespoon of olive oil in pan add a finely chopped onion sizzle away , add three cloves of crushed garlic and a couple of tins of tomatoes puree and maybe a drained tin of tomatoes, don't get it waterlogged though . Then add prawns if you can gather some herbs pref parsley cop a load of that in and add season bit of salt , pinch of sugar
This is a rich yummy sauce so you don’t need much. Boil up a load of rice et voila that’s the first course done
Second course is a pudding and a bit of occupational therapy all in one, as it requires you to peel the grapes. Some may say a mindnumbing and monotonous task whilst others find the repetition calming and soothing . Anyhow if you don’t do it the grape skin gets between your teeth
Peel them and cut them in half and fill shallow ceramic pie dish with skinned , halved white seedless grapes. Wisk up a carton of double cream , put all over the top then sprinkle demerara sugar , or ordinary if you don’t have any demerara , blast under the grill till the sugar melts , in the fridge and all the cream and sugar merge. It may sound odd , but trust me that has been a staple on the dinner party sweet trolley throughout the eighties chez nous and now that Somerfield have the half price bargain on its time to dust it off the shelf .
Enjoy
