Dear Kate and Emily,

I was married for several years, fell pregnant, husband abandoned me and unborn baby.

Heard nothing from him for several years since the birth of my child. I received a solicitors letter insisting he got a contact order. It appears that this contact order is to aid immigration problems. I feel strongly this is not a genuine request for contact, I feel my case is unique and would like to hear if there are others in a similar situation.

Dear Elizabeth

It is a good thing to encourage a relationship between father and children. It does not sound as though your ex has covered himself in glory by any means but as your childs father I think that you should encourage any attempts that he makes to have contact with your child. Maybe his motives are not honourable , maybe they are ?? but your child has a right to know him and if he is asking we think that you should go along with his requests to have contact with his child whatever your suspicions might be,the consequences of standing in the way of this might be considerable in the future . The bottom line is that your childs father is the father and your child has a right to know him. If your child can help him immigration wise and this makes a relationship possible that otherwise might not have been is that a bad thing ??
