Do Your Own MoT

You MoT is a health check, a measure of your overall well being taken on a regular basis. Everyone should do one, being a single parent makes no difference and you don’t have to be at rock bottom to benefit from it. Just one part of your life (or engine) might not be firing on all cylinders. Identifying it and working out ways to fix it and bring it back up to full performance will mean you get even more mileage out of live (enough puns, get on with it - ed)

This MOT is for you to do once every few months to keep an eye on your well being, to remind you what you’re doing well at, and to alert you to areas that need some attention.

Here’s your engine, with its 8 moving parts:

The 8 Parts That Drive Your Well-Being
This section to describe a bit more fully what we mean by work, money, fitness etc so that people can grasp what it is they have to think about and score

  • Work
  • How you feel
  • Fitness
  • Friends
  • Money
  • Love life
  • Family (outside you and the children)
  • Interests and hobbies

Your MOT
Give each of these parts of your life a score out of 10, where 10 is excellent and 1 is dreadful. Write your scores in your MOT form below and work out your average score (add up all the scores and divide by 8).

How about writing in the date and coming back to do another MOT in 2 months time?

Did You Pass?

  • Average score is 4 or less = MOT fail, remedial action needed! Work out an action plan – focus on 1 or 2 areas you’re able to handle at the moment, look for some easy wins

  • Average score is 5-6 = MOT pass once you’ve invested some time working out how to improve your average
  • Average score of 7+ = MOT pass. Well done, you’ve got the easy wins, now start tackling the larger issues that will help to raise the MOT scores further
