Practical things to think about

Time
It’s time that’s the hardest thing to sort out and babysitting becomes an issue. We found that meeting once a month was the most we could get people to do in the evening if they worked, or fortnightly if it was in the day when the children were at school or nursery.

Found out the times that suit the people you ask as people do split into evening or day time availability – and you might not want to do one of those yourself so think about that.

Venue
We’ve invited people round to our houses, even of we don’t know them directly. As long as they were a friend of a friend (and no more distant than that) we’d get them round. Make it bring a bottle and tell them you’ll supply crisps and dip – no more so eat before you come!

But if you’ve spread the net a bit wider than friends of friends to get your group together, or you just don’t want to host it then a local pub’s a good bet. We’ve found local pubs which have quite big communal areas so we can all get a table to sit round, or the sofa are etc. It might mean you get there a bit early to bag the seats, but order a drink and relax.

Ideas of things to do together
This isn't a particularly adventurous list, but it should help to get you started thinking of things to do - we did all of them (bar roller disco, as I'm still trying to get Kate on skates, but I won't give up!)
