Provencal Prawns and grape brulee

This week we have a veritable treat for you and your friends, assuming non of you are allergic to shell fish
Provencal Prawns on a bed of rice ( you can tell I have been watching Masterchef!) with an old Ford family favourite for pudding . grape brulee . These seemingly deluxe meals are possible courtesy of Tesco who have a half price deal on peeled king prawns £2.62 and Somerfield who are also going the half price route with their seedless grapes £2.20

Here goes ………………
Tablespoon of olive oil in pan add a finely chopped onion sizzle away , add three cloves of crushed garlic and a couple of tins of tomatoes puree and maybe a drained tin of tomatoes, don't get it waterlogged though . Then add prawns if you can gather some herbs pref parsley cop a load of that in and add season bit of salt , pinch of sugar

Kate's Kitchen Suppers

How I love a kitchen supper! Emily is rather unkind about my efforts as a hostess and even the mere phrase 'kitchen supper' sends shivers down her timbers. But no I am not put off for one minute, in fact I plan to turn this into one of the growth sections of this web site - that'll show her!

And actually it doesn't matter what you call these evening it is about kickstarting your social life and getting people round your table so the most important thing is to not get in a tizzwhizz about it, because simplicity and cutting catering corners is done in order to maximize your enjoyment, and enjoyment is key! Happy host, happy guests …This is about getting people round the table and the next thing you know , your diary starts to fill up.

So this is what I intend to do: trawl the supermarkets for cheap, good seasonal fare then show you how to turn said ingredients, Ready Steady Cook style, into tasty cheap nosh. Kate’s Kitchen Suppers are a one-pot, tasty yet wholesome easy-to-prepare- meal, to be enjoyed with a minimum of fuss in fun company.

So follow the recipes and invite your friends over and hey presto your social life's out of the starting blocks .. Hurrah ..!

No Excuses. Although there are a million reasons for not getting people round, most of these don’t stand up under scrutiny:

Cost? You can do a kitchen supper for £1 a person.

Time? You’re in, so what else are you up to?

Busy? What with? Urgent need to catch up on the soaps?

Tired? If you don’t make a 'meal' of it, it need not be too much work – and a good evening will wake most people up!.

So now the excuses have been knocked on the head it's on with the pinnies as guests are on their way over …. let's Cook Baby!

By the way Emily has become infected by this tantalizing combo of food at a reduced price, guests and fun and will be adding her wine tasting selections as and when a bargain springs.

pasta bake and oranges

This week you need to make for Tesco to buy St augur cheese . Brocloi is also cheap and healthy there this week and this works with brocoli though not as well .For the oranges Waitrose have the most marvellous bargain 4 big fat juicy ones for £1.14. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING ELSE WHILST THERE , too expensive.

Before the guests arrive peel and slice the oranges , put in a bowl . In a pan put 3 tablesppons of sugar and large spash of water 20ml to make a syrup . let it boil and the sugar melt , poor over the oranges and if you can find some fresh mint then chop up a bit of that and add to the pot or else a drop of brandy brandy. You can do this in the afternoon.
